New! FY 2018 Post-Retirement Benefit Adjustments

During the Annual Board meetings on April 20, 2017, the Boards of Trustees for the Employees’ Retirement System (ERS), the Legislative Retirement System (LRS), the Judicial Retirement System (JRS), and the Public School Employees Retirement System (PSERS) considered whether to grant Cost of Living Adjustments (COLAs) or other post-retirement benefit adjustments to retirees and beneficiaries in payment as of July 1, 2017.  Actions taken by the Boards are as follows:

ERS
APPROVED: A 3% one-time, non-compounded payment for retirees and beneficiaries, payable on the first $30,000 of annual pension benefit, with the following stipulations:

LRS
APPROVED: A 3% one-time, non-compounded payment for retirees and beneficiaries, with the following stipulations:

JRS
APPROVED: A 2% monthly COLA for retirees and beneficiaries, effective July 2017, with the following stipulations:

PSERS
APPROVED: A 2% monthly COLA for retirees and beneficiaries, effective July 2017, with the following stipulations:

The COLAs for JRS and PSERS are expected to be added to payees’ pension payments beginning with their July 2017 payments. The one-time payments for ERS and LRS are expected to be dated August 3, 2017.  The payments will be direct deposited for payees whose regular monthly benefit is direct deposited; all others will be mailed.


Form 1095 and IRS Affordable Care Act Compliance

State employees and retirees/surviving beneficiaries with State Health Benefit Plan (SHBP) coverage will receive a Form 1095-C from the State of Georgia in early March 2017. This form fulfills the IRS filing requirements of the Affordable Care Act and provides certain SHBP participants with employer-provided health care coverage information for your individual tax return filing.

1099 Forms for 2016

ERSGA will mail all 2016 Form 1099s by Monday, January 30th.

If you have questions about your Form 1099, please read our 1099 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).

If you are receiving a monthly pension, your 1099 will be available on our secure website on Wednesday, January 25th. Click account access to view your 1099R.

If you received a refund during 2016, you may be able to view your 1099 online on Wednesday, January 25th.  Click account access. If available, you will see View 1099R on your Self-Service Desktop.

If you have not received your Form 1099 in the mail by Thursday, February 9th, please contact a Customer Care Representative at (404) 350-6300 or (800) 805-4609. Our offices are open Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Eastern Time. Please note, if the address we have for you is not current, the US Postal Service will NOT forward your 1099. It will be returned to our office. Contact us to update your address and request that we resend your 2016 Form 1099.


Information about Furloughs

If you are an active employee in an agency who is furloughing, your contribution to the ERS Plan as well as the employer’s contribution to the ERS Plan will continue based on your full time equivalent salary. If you are furloughed more than 30 consecutive days in the same reporting month, please contact ERS to determine any impact on benefits.
