1. Introduction
Welcome to the Employees’ Retirement System (ERS) Employer Manual. This manual is a valuable tool to assist you in guiding new employees through the enrollment process and reporting ongoing Member data and contributions to ERSGA.
Over time ERSGA will provide updates to reflect changes in statutory provisions or ERSGA policy. Notification of these updates will be communicated through email, portal announcement, or the Retirement Minute.

As a participating Employer, you are essential to the success of the ERSGA-administered Retirement Systems, and a bridge to our Members. Together, we fulfill the statutory obligations of enrolling members, reporting and funding required demographic and financial transactions, providing support to retiring or terminating members, and much more. Our Members depend on us, and our partnership is vital to ensure the ongoing operation of the Systems.

Cybercrimes are on the rise. Bad actors are getting more sophisticated, and you may even receive an email that seems like it’s from someone you know and trust. The email could also contain familiar content, such as an attached authentic previous email chain between you and someone you trust.
To avoid becoming a victim, review the email for the following warning signs:

If it’s a real emergency, it wouldn’t happen over email.

ERS/TRS Process and Rules

The ERS/TRS election process for vested Members has been in practice for a while, but has not been administered consistently. In an effort to make sure we are all aware of the procedures, rules and timing, we analyzed what was in place, enhanced it where necessary and documented it. The rest of this document is the result of that project. Please follow this process going forward.
