How Do I Retire?

Members who meet the following conditions should apply for retirement online:

  • Are retiring with a service retirement
  • Have already chosen a retirement date
  • Have a recent estimate

You can apply by logging in to your secure online account using the Log In button at the top of any page. Once logged into the secure desktop, click the apply for retirement option. The online application contains retirement information and all necessary ERS forms.

ERSGA cannot accept the retirement application more than 90 days prior to the retirement date. The application must be received at least 30 days before the retirement date to process on a timely basis. The application is considered filed only when ERSGA has received all necessary documents.

Retirement always begins on the first of a month. The first retirement payment is direct deposited on the last working day of your initial payroll month.

WRAP and Scheduling an Appointment with an ERSGA Retirement Counselor

Retiring soon? Then plan to attend a WRAP in person or on Zoom, or view our WRAP (Workshop for Retirement Answers and Preparation) presentations online for the most comprehensive explanation of your retirement benefits. WRAP was designed specifically for anyone within three months of retiring and brings together information from ERS, Peach State Reserves, Flexible Benefits, and SHBP.

In many instances, a phone consultation with a counselor will answer your questions. While individual phone appointments can be scheduled, attending a WRAP or viewing the video presentations is the best way to have the information you need before your appointment.

Office hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. To make sure that you have adequate time with a member of our staff, phone appointments will not be scheduled after 4:00 pm.
