New GSEPS 401(k) Plan Restoral Provision
The Employees’ Retirement System of Georgia (ERSGA) is pleased to announce a new Peach State Reserves (PSR) 401(k) Restoral Provision recently approved by the ERS Board of Trustees. This important update enhances the benefits available to rehired Georgia State Employees’ Pension and Savings Plan (GSEPS) members, helping them stay on track for retirement after a break in service.
Effective Date: GSEPS members with a rehire date on or after November 1, 2025, will be eligible.
Here’s what’s new:
- When a GSEPS member terminates employment before becoming fully vested in their PSR 401(k) Employer Match, the non-vested employer funds are forfeited to the plan.
- Under the new Restoral Provision, if that former employee is rehired into a GSEPS-covered position within five (5) years, previously forfeited Employer Match funds will be automatically restored to their GSEPS PSR 401(k) account.
- As a reminder, a break in service greater than 31 days restarts the vesting schedule.
- No action is required from the employee to receive this benefit.
This provision provides a tangible financial advantage for returning employees!
