PSERS Benefit Multiplier Increase
Effective 7/1/2019

The benefit rate for members of the Public School Employees Retirement System (PSERS) has been raised for PSERS members, retirees, and beneficiaries with retirements on or after 8/1/2012, from $15.25 to $15.50 per month per year of service.  This increase is effective 7/1/2019 and will be reflected in the July 2019 pension payment.

Personal Statements of Retirement Benefits

Employees’ Retirement System of Georgia (ERSGA)  mailed annual Personal Statement of Retirement Benefits to ERS members on February 27, 2020.

This integrated statement combines  ERSGA pension benefits and Peach State Reserves (PSR) (if applicable) balances to provide an overview estimate of where members currently stand in achieving their retirement goals. In addition, if members have a PSR balance, their Social Security estimate will be factored into the summary.


Notice: Print Changes to 1099-R Forms
January 28, 2019

ERS recently changed the forms for 1099-R documents.

Instead of a pre-printed, perforated form, you will receive your 2018 1099 forms on plain paper, enclosed in an envelope.

Retirees – Changes in Federal Withholding Tables
Effective January 2020

The IRS has issued new federal withholding tables.  If you notice a change in the net amount of your January pension benefit, this may be due to the new withholding rates. To see details of your pension payments, log in to your ERSGA account using the Log In button at the top of any page, then select View Payment Information, and View Payment History

Post-Retirement Benefit Adjustments
February 2019 Payment

During the Annual Board meetings on April 19, 2018, the Boards of Trustees for the Employees’ Retirement System (ERS), the Legislative Retirement System (LRS), and the Judicial Retirement System (JRS) considered whether to grant post-retirement benefit adjustments to retirees and beneficiaries in fiscal year 2019.  Actions taken by the Boards for February 2019 are as follows:


2021 Health and Dental Rates

Beginning this month, 2021 health and dental rates may have an impact on your monthly benefit amount. 

2021 health and dental insurance rates will go into effect December 31, 2020 for your January 2021 coverage. The new health and dental deductions will affect your December 2020 net benefit amount.

Payment summary statements and a breakdown of your net monthly benefit can be viewed or downloaded by signing into your account using the Log In button at the top of the page.


Form 1095 and IRS Affordable Care Act Compliance

State employees and retirees/surviving beneficiaries with State Health Benefit Plan (SHBP) coverage will receive a Form 1095-C from the State of Georgia in early March 2017. This form fulfills the IRS filing requirements of the Affordable Care Act and provides certain SHBP participants with employer-provided health care coverage information for your individual tax return filing.


Contribution Limits in Peach State Reserves
January, 2021

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) maximum contribution limits in 401(k) and 457 plans for 2021 will remain the same as for 2020.

Contribution limits for 2021 are:

  • Under Age 50: $19,500
  • Over Age 50: $26,000

You can contribute the maximum amount to both a 401(k) and 457 account.

Even if you can’t contribute to the maximum amount, this is a great reminder to save as much as you can for your retirement.

Retirees: CIGNA Dental Refund

Retirees with CIGNA Dental HMO were notified of a deduction overpayment of premiums from January 2018 to June 2018. Impacted retirees should receive a refund check in the mail during the month of August 2018. The correct amounts were withheld for July 2018, and will be correct going forward. Refunds will vary depending on plan and will range from $.84 to $2.31 per month.
